Moving pets from Morocco takes weeks, sometimes months, of preparation. The good news: the core file is the same everywhere. It is the destination country's rules that change the timeline.
The common base for every destination
- ISO 11784/11785 microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccine.
- Valid rabies vaccination.
- ONSSA-endorsed health certificate, on the destination country's model, in the days before departure.
- IATA crate of the right size if the pet flies in the hold or as cargo.
What changes by destination
- European Union, Switzerland, UK: rabies titer test required, then a 3-month wait. Allow 4 to 5 months. See France, Belgium, UK.
- USA: CDC "high-risk country" rules for dogs (titer from a CDC-approved lab, arrival at an airport with a registered facility). See USA.
- Canada: rabies vaccine and health certificate, no titer or quarantine for a pet; "commercial" dogs are banned. See Canada.
- UAE: import permit, titer test and cargo arrival. See Dubai.
- Australia, New Zealand: mandatory stay in an approved country first. See Australia.
Cabin, hold or cargo?
A cat or small dog of up to 8 kg (bag included) can fly in the cabin on Royal Air Maroc; heavier pets go in the hold up to 70 kg. To the UK and the UAE, arrival must be as cargo. If you leave before your pet, we can send it alone by plane.
Our tips for a smooth departure
- Start with the microchip and vaccine as soon as a departure date is in sight.
- Check the breed: some countries ban pit bull-type dogs.
- Plan boarding if your move and your pet's flight don't line up.
